KILL DEVIL HILLS — Joseph Donald Fecak passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. He was 79 years old.
Don was born in Gladewater, TX on November 20, 1944 to Joseph and Geraldine Fecak, and the family moved to Lawrence Township, NJ in 1946. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, which included deployments to Hawaii and the South Pacific as a crew member of the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier.
He worked for many years as a manager within the Grand Union supermarket chain, where he managed stores in Rocky Hill and Toms River. After relocating to North Carolina’s Outer Banks in 2002, Don worked as a custodian and bus driver for Dare County Schools.
Don was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, and attended professional baseball and football games at many stadiums nationwide. He was an outdoorsman for much of his life and enjoyed fishing, visiting lighthouses across the Eastern Seaboard, and studying military and maritime history.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife Deborah, daughter Melissa (Bill), son David (Deanna), granddaughter Cora Mae Fecak, stepchildren Alasia Fiumenero Badalamenti (Anthony) and Shannon Fiumenero, stepgrandchildren Kayla, Nicholas, Jaxon, Aaron, and Brianna, sisters Susan Saunders and Judith DeCristofano (John), brother Gary (Ronnie), and several nieces and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives for a viewing and visitation beginning at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo, NC. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. John Hanley, osfs. Burial will take place in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
