MANTEO — Muriel Haley Montgomery, 79, of Manteo, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2024, in Suffolk, VA. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 24, 1945, to the late Edna and Walter Haley.
Muriel’s dedication to the education system was unwavering throughout her life. She graduated from Granby High School and went on to earn her master’s degree from George Mason University. Her impact was felt profoundly in the Culpeper School System, where she played an integral role.
At the age of 55, Muriel and her husband Bob chose to retire to Manteo, NC, where they enjoyed a peaceful life together. She devoted herself to St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head, NC, finding solace and purpose in her faith.
For over two decades, Muriel poured her heart into supporting the Dare County Friends of Youth program, serving on their advisory board. Her kindness and love touched countless lives, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and generosity.
In addition to her parents, Muriel was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert John “Bob” Montgomery III. She is survived by her daughter Jenny Lampe (Roy) of Suffolk, VA; her sons Jay Montgomery (Cari) of Ramseur, NC, and Brad Montgomery (Michelle) of Janesville, WI.
A service to celebrate Muriel’s life and legacy will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church with Fr. Nathan Finnin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church or Friends of Youth, in honor of Muriel’s memory and her dedication to serving others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
