RODANTHE — Naomi L. Sallinger died peacefully of natural causes in Nags Head on November 27, 2022, at the age of 87. Naomi was born in Nelson County VA. After graduating high school she relocated to Portsmouth, VA, and attended William and Mary College where she earned a business degree. Naomi married and had two sons and the family settled in Chesapeake.
After many years of visiting the Outer Banks, she and her husband made Rodanthe their permanent home in 1995. Naomi loved her home on Hatteras Island where she used her green thumb to cultivate a yard full of beautiful flowers. She also loved cats- feeding and helping to spay and neuter numerous feral cats on the island. Naomi was a dedicated volunteer for the Hot Line thrift store for two decades and retired from Island Convenience Store in Rodanthe. Naomi was adored and loved by all of her co-workers. friends, co-volunteers, and neighbors.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving son, William Sallinger; daughter-in-law, Darla Sallinger; grandson, Bobby Sallinger; grandson, Jeremy Sallinger; granddaughters, Jennifer (Thompson), Brittany (Werlau) and Jessica (Holt) and several great-grandchildren. Naomi was pre-deceased by her husband Merritt Sallinger, Jr., and son Austin.
