KILL DEVIL HILLS — Patrick Herman Hughes III, born on July 7, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on March 23, 2025, in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, at the age of 52.
Raised in the heart of Brooklyn, NC, Patrick was a devoted son to his late parents, Joyce Francetta Clark Hughes and Patrick Herman Hughes II. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Hughes, and his baby brother, Patrick Michael Hughes.
Patrick spent his professional life as a reservations operator, a role that allowed him to showcase his dedication and work ethic. Beyond his career, he was an avid fisherman, who found solace on serene waters, casting lines with patience and skill. His love for collecting comic books and movies was unparalleled, a testament to his passion for stories and imagination. Patrick was a proud sci-fi fan and a devoted aficionado of Dungeons & Dragons, where he often gathered with friends to embark on epic adventures. An animal lover at heart, he shared his life with his beloved cats and dogs, offering them boundless affection.
A man of faith, Patrick was raised in the Catholic tradition, which shaped his values and outlook on life. He leaves behind his life partner, Michelle Portoukalian of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and her daughter, Jillian Christie of Kitty Hawk, NC, who brought joy and companionship into his life. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Hughes of Brooklyn, NY.
To honor his memory, a gathering to celebrate Patrick’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Twiford Funeral Homes – Outer Banks Chapel. Friends and family are invited to share their memories and pay their respects. Following the service, a reception will take place at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4506 Club, where stories and laughter will continue in tribute to a life well-lived.
Patrick’s journey touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the stories and dreams he cherished.
