BUXTON — Richard T. Swisstack, 82, of Buxton, NC, formerly of Rahway, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at home.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he lived in Rahway, NJ for many years before moving to Buxton, NC.
He was employed by Merck and Co., Rahway, NJ, as an electrician for over 32 years before retiring. He was the Chief Steward of the Merck Mechanical Union and was a member of the Merck Quater Century Club. He also served on the Union County Vocational Technical School Board of Directors for the Electrician Apprentice Program. Later, he was the proprietor of Richard Swisstack and Sons Electrical Contractors, Rahway, NJ, and Swiss-Tek Electrical Contractors, Buxton, NC.
Rich was a member of the Lafayette Lodge No. 27 F&AM for over 50 years, and he achieved the rank of Shriner.
Mr. Swisstack enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, Buxton, NC.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Thomas Mahalchick III, in June 2024.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Nancy. He was the devoted father of Loree Mahalchick and Nancy, Michael, and Richard Swisstack, and the dear brother of Barbara Hudson and Patricia Paffrath. He was also loved by four grandchildren: Tiffany, Trevor, Taylor, and Kyle, and his great-granddaughter Aurora.
Services will be held at the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home at 371 West Milton Ave. Rahway, NJ, on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery, Clark, NJ. Visiting will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024, 2-6 PM
