KITTY HAWK — Richard T. Gillespie passed away in Nags Head, NC early in the morning of May 16, 2022. He was the son of the late Samuel and S. Viola Gillespie and brother of the late Robert Gillespie. Richard was born May 28,1930 in York, PA.
Richard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joan Gillespie and their daughter, Linda Gillespie Hoover and son-in-law, Gary Hoover all of Kitty Hawk, NC.
Richard loved playing bridge. He was the founder of the Outer Banks Duplicate Bridge Club and served as the club director for over 30 years.
Richard was also a great Civil War buff which led him to research, write, and publish a Civil War book.
Richard had a huge passion for his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. His greatest love was singing on the Kitty Hawk United Methodist choir. He loved his family as he was loved and adored by them.
The memorial service will be held June 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
