NAGS HEAD — Robert Cary “Bob” Wade, Sr. of Nags Head, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Hampton, Virginia, the only child of Robert Leo and Emily Wade.
He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied chemical engineering. He also received a master’s degree in business from William and Mary University.
Bob served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force before joining Amoco Oil in May 1957, where he spent his career until his retirement. He continued working as a consultant for many years after retiring. He was a very active member of the community, and helping others was his passion. Bob served as a scoutmaster, he volunteered at the Nature Conservancy, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and helped with the expansion of St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
He had a special bond with many dogs throughout his life and excelled in obedience and conformation training. He had three champion dogs of different breeds.
Bob loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many countries around the world, most recently with his wife Patricia Fleming. Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed tinkering with cars, ensuring they were in tip-top performance condition. He also attended many auto races, including the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leo, his mother, Emily Wade, and his first wife, Jacqueline P. Wade. Survivors include his son, Robb (Kathy), grandsons Cary and Chris Wade (Jackie), great-grandsons Ryan, Charlie, and Leo Wade, and his wife Patricia Fleming.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, November 20, 2023, at St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, it was Bob’s wish that donations would be appreciated to St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church (PO Box 445, Nags Head, NC 27959) or Ministry Essentials International (PO Box 4947, Wheaton, IL 60189-4947).
