Robert Mitchell “Mitch” Lively, died in Virginia Beach, VA, surrounded by his family, on October 25, 2020, due to complications from lung cancer. He was 69. Mitch was born on July 2, 1951, in Shelbyville, IL to his parents Robert and Darlene Lively. He graduated from MacMurray College with a degree in Sociology in 1973.
He married Christine Lively (nee Pitsch) in 1975. The Livelys then moved to Nags Head, NC after purchasing Morales Art Gallery and were owners and proprietors of two galleries in Duck and Nags Head. Mitch was a supporter of the arts in the Outer Banks community, including singing in church choirs, Concert Chorale, and Barbershop.
Mitch is survived by his wife Christine; son Ben (Caroline) of Charlotte, NC; daughter Hannah (Larry Decker) of Germantown, MD; mother Darlene of Shelbyville, IL; father-in-law Rev. Robert Pitsch of Kill Devil Hills, NC; brothers Tom (Jane) and Brent; sister Becky (Tom Jones); four grandchildren, Mason, Emma, Ava, and Blake, as well as many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father; his sister Nancy Mason (nee Lively), and mother-in-law Helen Pitsch.
Mitch’s wishes for cremation will be honored and the family’s plans for a memorial are pending. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Lung Association, March of Dimes, the Dare County Art Council, or the Chautauqua Building of Shelbyville, IL.
