WANCHESE — Ryan Sulkowski of Wanchese, NC, beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away on November 20, 2023. He was born on January 23, 1978, in New Brunswick, NJ. Ryan was 45 years old at the time of his passing.
Ryan had an impressive career in the field of physical education, coaching and youth development. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Valdosta State University and went on to obtain his master’s degree in youth development from Clemson University. Throughout his career, Ryan coached football at various universities and schools, including Austin Pea University, Chowan University, Lenoir Rhyne University, Hargrave Military Academy, Valdosta State University, Clemson University, Rifle High School (Colorado), Baker County High School (Glen St. Mary, FL), and Coffee County High School (Manchester, TN) and Hunt High School (Wilson, NC).
Ryan achieved great success in his coaching endeavors. He and his brother Joe coached the 2012 Baker County Football team to a Florida High School 5A District Championship, leaving a lasting impact on their players’ lives. Ryan and Joe also published a book together titled “101 Spread Offense Drills,” showcasing their expertise in the field.
Notably, Ryan had the privilege of coaching football at Clemson University on Tommy Bowden’s 2008-09 Football Staff with Dabo Sweeney and coached in the Army All-American Bowl in 2014, further solidifying his dedication and passion for the sport.
Ryan is survived by his loving wife, Heather Sulkowski, and their cherished daughter, Doxie Brynn Sulkowski. He is also survived by his mother, Gloria Sulkowski, his brothers, Joseph Sulkowski and Frank Sulkowski III (Lori); and his nieces, Abigail, Aubrey, Charlotte, and Emma. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sulkowski, Jr.
The memorial service to honor Ryan’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Wanchese Assembly of God at 2:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to gather and remember a remarkable man who made a profound impact on the lives he touched.
In his final days, Ryan received exceptional care and support at the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Health Care in Pittsboro, NC. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
