April 6, 1976 – July 6, 2022
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Sara Lynn Kristof on July 6, 2022 at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Sara was a vibrant, compassionate, and independent woman who loved her family and friends deeply.
Sara was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 6, 1976, and her tie to the Outer Banks began in 1988 when her family built a summer home in Corolla. As a teenager she spent her summers working in Corolla Light and enjoying the beach with friends.
Sara’s life was full of family, friends, and adventure. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. degree in Foreign Affairs and Latin American Studies. It was there she formed friendships that have strengthened despite time and distance. Her love for travel expanded during her college years and she spent a summer in Spain and a semester in Argentina. Upon graduation “the girls” took off to backpack through Europe.
Sara has lived in Virginia, Maine, Aspen, and outside D.C. where she worked for a non-profit organization. But the beach called Sara back and she returned to the Outer Banks in 2000.
Sara began working here as a Sales Assistant for the developer of the Currituck Club. She earned her real estate license and was involved in real estate sales from 2003 – 2006. In 2007 Sara began working in property rental in Corolla and Duck. She joined the Village Realty team in 2014. Her knowledge of Corolla and close relationship with so many homeowners attributed to her success. Sara was Director of Business Development for Village Realty. She loved, excelled at, and was dedicated to her job.
A recent joy filled event for Sara was her wedding on October 2, 2020. Sara and Cory were married in Corolla amongst family and friends. Besides work and travel, Sara enjoyed cooking, paddle boarding, time at the beach, gardening, yoga, and creating memorable experiences for her niece and all the children in her life.
Sara is survived by her husband Cory Waters, father Bruce Kristof, mother Laura and Paul Stalter, brother Matthew Kristof and Allysa Miller, niece Madeline Kristof, and a large extended and blended family.
A memorial service is planned at the Corolla Chapel on July 26, 2022, at 1:00. It will be live streamed on the Corolla Chapel Facebook page. A celebration of her life will continue at the Currituck Club from 2:00 to 6:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sara’s name can be made to the Beach Food Pantry in Kitty Hawk or WAVES (Water’s Edge Village School) in Corolla.
