OCRACOKE — Sherry Leigh Atkinson, of Ocracoke, NC, passed away on September 9, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center at the age of 62. She was born on December 2, 1961, in Fayetteville, NC, to the late Heidrun Jones and William Atkinson
Sherry worked a variety of jobs prior to moving to Ocracoke. It was on Ocracoke where Sherry honed her true passion for cooking. She leaves a legacy of chefs and waitstaff, both on and off the island, affectionately known as her “babies.”
Sherry is survived by her loving wife, Laura Michaels, who has stood by her side through the past 24 years.
