HATTERAS — Mrs. Shirley “Joyce” Scarborough, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away January 4, 2020 in Chesapeake, VA. A viewing will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The service will be held January 9, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Both services will be held in Buxton, NC at Lighthouse Assembly of God and will be officiated by Pastor Eric Hinson.
Joyce was born July 29th, 1937 in Williamston, NC. In 1957, in Elizabeth City, NC, Joyce met Bobby Scarborough who was serving in the US Coast Guard. On September 13, 1957, they were married and remained married for over 62 years. Joyce’s life was committed to serving the Lord and she was devoted to her husband, children and family. She dedicated her spare time to ministering to children of all ages.
She is survived by her husband Bobby Scarborough; children Jennifer Davis, Bob Scarborough Jr. and Randy Vargas; grandchildren, David Christiansen and Christie Menciano; great-grandchildren Gabriel Christiansen, Sawyer Menciano and Ian Vargas; sisters Betty Carelli and Mildred Gurganus; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was loved by all and she will be greatly missed.
