KITTY HAWK — William Dennis Twiford, 67, of Kitty Hawk, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on March 25, 2025. Born on October 9, 1957, Dennis was a proud lifelong resident of the Outer Banks, tracing his family roots back eight generations to the 1600s, from Corolla to Ocracoke.
A graduate of Manteo High School, Dennis built a fulfilling career as a subcontractor with Northeastern Marine. His dedication to his work was matched only by his zest for life. Known for his strong spirit and passion, Dennis approached every endeavor with enthusiasm, whether he was skateboarding, riding the waves while surfing, or casting a line in the hopes of another memorable catch. His prowess in fishing was well recognized when he achieved victory in the Deep Sea Fishing Grand Slam.
Dennis’s adventurous spirit also led him to Las Vegas, where his love for gambling introduced him to countless friends who cherished his generosity and camaraderie. An avid golfer, Dennis’s competitive spirit and skill on the golf course earned him several club championships, further testament to his commitment and passion for the activities he loved.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carolyn Culpepper Twiford and William Elton Twiford, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
Dennis leaves behind his devoted wife, Helen Temple Twiford; two loving sisters, Deborah Twiford of Charlotte, NC, and Denise Hines (Keith) of Forsyth, GA; and two cherished nieces, Anna Holtgrewe (Matthew) and Sarah Grodzicki (Nick).
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dennis’s life on Monday, March 31, 2025, at The Black Pelican from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A private service will be held at a later date.
Dennis will be remembered for his unwavering passion, his fierce love for family and friends, and his unyielding connection to the Outer Banks. His memory will forever ride the tides of the place he called home.
