FRISCO — Zola F. Steger (92) of Frisco, NC, passed peacefully on July 15, 2023. She was born in Dallas Center, Iowa in 1931 to the late Orval and Fay Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Steger.
Zola loved raising her four children and helping others, often offering up a seat at the family table. An island resident since 1966, she enjoyed working at the Navy base commissary, fishing with her late husband, and making sure we made the most of our life’s journey. Later in life, her passion shifted to gardening, where she became a master gardener.
Zola is survived by sons Gary Bowers (Dhanyo), Don Bowers, and Andy Bowers (Stephanie); and daughter Patricia Grumm (Joe). The extended family includes Lee and Skip Bardsley, Cain Bowers (Lyddia) and children Lyric and Alex, Corbin Bowers, Canaan Merrilat and children Cassidy, Cailin, Kyler, and Pierson, Grace Bardsley and children Charlotte and Stella, Cathy Wright (Josh) and children Ethan and Jacob, Billy Bardsley (Mandy) and child Jack, and Patricia Smith.
In lieu of funeral services, the family welcomes all to a celebration of life open house at 50053 Lone Oak Rd, Frisco, on September 16, 2023, starting at 10:00 am. Come by to say hello and share your stories while enjoying Zola’s chocolate chip cookies and more.
