Cape Hatteras National Seashore Facilities on Ocracoke Open as of Friday Morning

Share post:

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore announced on Wednesday that their visitor center, off-road vehicle permit office, and campground on Ocracoke Island will reopen on Friday morning, September 21.

Hyde County is allowing visitors back on Ocracoke Island starting Friday as well, using the Swan Quarter to Ocracoke ferry route, or the Cedar Island to Ocracoke route.

The Hatteras to Ocracoke ferry route remains closed because repair and cleanup work is needed at the north end of the island, where ocean overwash impacted a 1-2 mile stretch of N.C. Highway 12. There is not yet a timeframe on when these repairs will be complete.

The ferry route from Hatteras will be reestablished by the NCDOT Ferry Division once the northern end of the island is safe for travel again. For updated ferry schedules, go to @NCDOTFerry (https://twitter.com/NCDOT_Ferry) on Twitter.
