The Dare County Library has announced that its popular Library Enrichment Series for Adults will continue throughout the month of May with the following two free writing workshops, which will be held virtually via Zoom.

“Writing Your Heart Out”

Friday, May 6 from 12-1 p.m.

Are you a writer but not sure how to get your words published? Or maybe you want to build a daily writing practice and aren’t sure where to start. You can do it! This workshop provides the tools you’ll need to develop a thriving writing practice and also discusses the personal benefits of pursuing this creative outlet.

There will be tips for how to get your work published by publications and platforms, and a high-level overview of the process and the steps that are required to publish a book will also be shared.

This writing workshop will be presented by Donna Y. Ferris, author of “We’ve Got to Stop Meeting Like This – A Memoir of Missed Connection.”

“Making Order Out of Chaos: Finding and Making the Story”

Tuesday, May 10 from 1-2 p.m.

Writing fiction, as an act of the imagination, starts with limitless possibilities in terms of ideas, story, style, voice, order, sequence, arc, character traits, setting, etc. How are creative choices made among the infinite possibilities? How and where does a story begin? How is it “found?” When is it “set?” Is it ever “done?” Where does the development of craft come in? What are its dangers?

Join author Walter Bennett, author of the Outer Banks-set novel, “The Last First Kiss,” for a Q&A session about his writing craft. Authors who are looking for insight and inspiration about their own writing will be able to ask Bennett for advice and guidance during this workshop.

Registration Information:

Programs are free for Dare County residents and property owners ages 18 years and older. Registration is required, and space is limited. Presentations will not be recorded, but some may be repeated, so patrons can select the program date and time that they prefer.
