UPDATE: Seashore officials seek information about suspicious fire
Cape Hatteras National Seashore law enforcement staff are investigating a suspicious fire on seashore property.
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Nags Head and Roanoke Island fire departments extinguished a human-caused fire south of Whalebone Junction and on the east side of Highway 12. There were no injuries or property damage, but the human-caused blaze put firefighter lives and local residences at risk.
If you were driving this section of road on Highway 12 between 6:30 and 7 p.m. on January 12 and saw any suspicious activity or vehicles along the road edge in this area, or if you have any other information about the cause of this fire, please call the Dare County Crime Line.
