Contract awarded to resurface Highway 12 between Salvo and Avon
Thirty contracts totaling $165.9 million have been awarded for highway and rail projects across North Carolina, including eight projects funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law.
“These projects will provide much-needed work for people across North Carolina,” Perdue said. “Not only will they stimulate the economy by putting people to work, they will have a long-term impact on commerce by improving critical transportation infrastructure.”
According to the Federal Highway Administration, every $1 million spent on transportation creates 30 jobs, and according to the construction industry, every dollar invested in transportation generates $6 in economic impact.
One of the ARRA-funded contracts awarded includes resurfacing Highway 12 in Dare County from the National Park Service boundary south of Salvo, south for eight miles.
The $1.3 million contract was awarded to RPC Contracting Inc. of Kitty Hawk. Work can begin as early as March 29, with final completion no later than June 11, 2011.
This project includes plans to resurface the road and install long-life pavement markings.
The road will remain open to traffic during construction with lane closures in place.
