Confidence Growing for Potential Snow and Rain on Hatteras Island
Confidence has increased to “moderate” for light snowfall across portions of Eastern NC in the latest 6 a.m. Friday briefing from the National Weather Service office in Morehead City. The wintery weather is expected to begin Saturday night and last through Sunday evening.
Up to an inch or so of snow is possible in eastern portions of the state, as forecast guidance has trended towards a weaker storm solution. The storm system has also moved further south, and most accumulations will be south of Highway 264.
Little accumulation for coastal sections – including Hatteras Island – is expected, as surface temperatures should remain above freezing.
Per the 6 a.m. briefing, rain and snow with little accumulation is expected for roughly the town of Avon south on Hatteras Island, while the beaches north of the tri-villages area may see dusting up to 1”.
A stronger and warmer storm system is likely for Monday and Tuesday, with wind and rain that could be heavy at times.
Adjustments to the current forecast are likely, and the next briefing should be posted by the National Wester Service by 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
