Coastal Storm still on track for Monday / Early Tuesday per Latest NWS Update
A quick moving coastal storm will affect Hatteras and Ocracoke islands on Monday and early Tuesday, but will diminish by Tuesday afternoon, per the Sunday morning update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
Winds will increase through Monday morning, peaking Monday evening through mid-Tuesday morning. Wind direction will be from the northeast to north through Monday evening, backing into the northwest by Tuesday morning.
Peek wind gusts are forecast to be in the 40-48 mph range for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, with high seas up to 12 feet.
Minor coastal flooding is possible on the oceanside from Hatteras village north, and soundside flooding is possible from Hatteras village to Downeast Carteret County. The peak of the coastal flooding will coincide with the strongest winds on Monday night.
