Storm Produces Some Soundside Flooding Before Leaving the Outer Banks
March’s second coastal storm produced minor to moderate soundside flooding late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, but NCDOT reports that N.C. Highway 12 remains open throughout the islands.
Soundside flooding was reported in several areas south of the Bonner Bridge, including in Avon, Frisco and Hatteras village, and a few snow flurries on Hatteras Island were reported around midnight as well.
All precipitation associated with the storm has ended, per the National Weather Service, and the Coastal Flood, Wind, and Low Water Advisories will end late this morning or afternoon.
The strong winds will taper off by Tuesday afternoon, however the High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m.
Due to the soundside flooding, Cape Hatteras Elementary and Secondary Schools were closed on Tuesday.
The storm is expected to move quickly through Tuesday, and to be out to sea by Tuesday evening.
