Severe Weather Threats Forecasted in the Coming Week By JOY CRIST

A couple of weather threats may be in store this week which includes the potential for several rounds of severe thunderstorms.

Late tonight into early Tuesday morning: There is a marginal threat with the potential for a few strong thunderstorms, which can include severe wind gusts and an isolated tornado. The Outer Banks falls in the “marginal” threat range which indicates that any storms in the region will be limited in duration, coverage, and / or intensity.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning: A greater threat for severe thunderstorms will occur as a strong storm system evolves across the region.

This has the potential to be a dangerous and potentially life-threatening severe weather outbreak across Eastern NC. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has Eastern NC in a slight risk for severe storms, which covers the area from Raleigh east, and which includes the Outer Banks.

Upgrades to the threat level may be warranted as we approach the mid-week time frame, if this upcoming storm system pans out the way it is now forecast by the National Weather Service. Threats associated with this mid-week system include a few tornadoes, some potentially strong and damaging winds, and large hail.
