Ferry Division sets deadline for Ocracoke vendor priority passes
The busy summer season is just around the corner, and with it comes the deadline for businesses and vendors serving Ocracoke Island to secure their 2016 priority passes for the Hatteras Inlet ferry. This year’s application deadline is Friday, May 13.
Vendors and businesses must verify that they are a provider of a service to Ocracoke Island and may apply for a priority pass only if the company travels to Ocracoke twice a week, every week.
An application must be obtained at the Hatteras Terminal, appropriately filled out and then approved by the Ferry Division before a sticker is issued and picked up by the vendor. The process to obtain the sticker takes at least one week and passes are canceled if the sticker is not picked up within three weeks of the application date.
If a business or vendor misses the May 13 priority pass deadline, priority status will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
For further information, please contact the Hatteras Terminal directly at 252-986-2353.
Also during May, the Ferry Division will issue priority pass renewals for Ocracoke residents.
Residents must show a valid driver’s license and a vehicle registration card with an Ocracoke address. Only one pass per vehicle will be issued. Residents with last names beginning with A-H will receive passes on Monday, May 2, and residents with the last names beginning with I-P will be on Tuesday, May 3. Residents with the last names beginning with Q-Z will be on Wednesday, May 4. Hours each day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department.
