Heavy Rain, Potential Thunderstorms Forecasted for Coastal North Carolina
Heavy rains, strong winds and potential thunderstorms are expected late Thursday and Friday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
A strong area of low pressure will move to the west of the coastal North Carolina area overnight through tomorrow, producing locally heavy rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches, with localized amounts of 2 inches possible.
There is also a marginal threat of severe thunderstorms which begins late tonight and which continues until late Friday. The primary threat will be strong gusty winds and there is also potential for an isolated tornado or two in the coastal N.C. region. The main timing of the inclement weather is forecasted from roughly 5 am through midday on Friday.
