NCDOT is resurfacing Highway 12 in parts of Frisco and Hatteras

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is repaving a section of Highway 12 in Frisco and another section of the road in Hatteras village as part its 2014 plan for resurfacing Dare County roads.

This year’s Dare resurfacing contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting for $1.22 million.  

Part of the contract calls for resurfacing 1.07 miles in Hatteras village from the northern intersection of Highway 12 and Eagle Pass Road to the southern intersection of that road and the highway. That is through the heart of the village.

Also being resurfaced is 1.6 miles of Highway 12 in Frisco from South Buccaneer Drive to Old Landing Road.

The contract calls for all work to be finished before Memorial Day weekend, according to Randy Midgett, DOT’s district field engineer in Elizabeth City.

Barnhill began working on milling the highway – removing the old surface – yesterday.  Today, the company finished the milling in Frisco and moved on to Hatteras village.

Midgett said that laying new asphalt on the highway in Frisco began this morning, with Hatteras village to follow.

The contractor, he said, expects to finish all the work by the end of the week unless weather or equipment breakdown interfere.

Midgett added that there will be some shoulder reconstruction and lane striping that may continue into next week.
