Four Charged with Street Racing after Thursday Crash on N.C. 12. By JOY CRIST
Four men face charges after allegedly street racing on N.C. Highway 12 on Thursday morning, leading to a car accident that left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital with serious injuries.
Five vehicles from Virginia were allegedly involved in a speed competition south of Whalebone Junction. The four surviving drivers Patrick Xiao (age 19) Daniel Eugene Kim (age 20) Indie Ryan Srishord (age 20) Xinpeng Tang (age 18) were all cited for Spontaneous Speed Competition, and possible further charges are pending.
On May 18, 2017 at approximately 10:36 a.m. a collision occurred on N.C. 12 0.75 miles south of US 158 (Whalebone Junction).
The Honda driven by the deceased turned into the North bound lane of N.C. 12 attempting to pass the other vehicle(s) and failed to yield the right of way to a 2005 White Chevrolet Pickup, owned by the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, INC., hitting him head on.
The pickup became fully engulfed in flames, and the driver escaped out of the window while the passenger was pulled from the vehicle by bystanders on the scene as the vehicle was burning. The fire was extinguished by the Nags Head Fire Department.
The driver of the pickup was transported by Dare County EMS to the OBX Hospital while the passenger was transported by Dare County EMS Helicopter to Norfolk General.
The investigation still ongoing.
