Four seniors receive their diplomas at Ocracoke graduation ….WITH SLIDE SHOW AND VIDEO

Ocracoke School can probably lay claim to having the smallest graduating class in North Carolina this year.
In a commencement ceremony on Sunday evening, June 13, four seniors at the school, which includes kindergarten through 12th grade, received their diplomas.
The graduates are Aaron Parker Caswell, Jordan Elizabeth Jones, David Justin Lukefahr, and Samantha Mary Jean Vander Myde.
The class valedictorian is Samantha Mary Jean Vander Myde, and the salutatorian is Jordan Elizabeth Jones. Both young women addressed their classmates, family members, and friends at the ceremony.
The commencement speaker was Ocracoke musician Marcy Brenner.
The diplomas were awarded by principal George Ortman, who also announced scholarship winner.

• Rebecca Swanzey Cornette Scholarship – $500
• Ocracoke School PTA Scholarship – $500
• Ocracoke Variety Store Scholarship – $500
• Ellen Holiday Scholarship – $750
• Greg and Eden Honeycutt Scholarship (through Outer Banks Community Foundation) – $1,000
Samantha Mary Jean Vander Myde
• Beveridge and Mayo Scholarship – $920
• Rebecca Swanzey Cornette Scholarship – $500
• Alton Ballance Civic and Business Scholarship – $500
• Ocracoke Assembly of God Scholarship – $1,000
Aaron Parker Caswell
• State Employees’ Credit Union (People Helping People Scholarship) – $10,000
• Boy Scouts of America/CenturyLink Scholarship – $500
• Glenn and Pat Eure Endowment Fund for Arts Education Scholarship (through Outer Banks Community Foundation) – $900
• Rebecca Swanzey Cornette Scholarship – $500
Three students are headed to college — Jones to Asheville, Caswell to Cullowhee, and Vander Myde to Wilmington. Lukefar says he plans “to travel the globe.”
