Dare County Sheriff’s Office investigators are asking residents of Hatteras Island and other Outer Banks locations for help with the search for a woman who has been missing since about July 4 when she was visiting in the Salvo area.
According to a news release, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by authorities in Ashland, Ohio, for help in locating Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, of Ashland. She was last heard from about midnight July 4 when she was believed to have been in Salvo.
The release said that “incriminating statements have been made to persons in Ohio that foul play may be involved, according to Ohio authorities.”
Ohio authorities are also searching for Nathaniel Summerfield, 27, also of Ashland and Jackenheimer’s boyfriend, who is missing as well. Summerfield was last seen in Ashland on Sunday, July 8, when he reportedly dropped off Jackenheimer’s two children, who are believed to have been vacationing with them, at their grandparents’ house.
Today the Sheriff’s Office said in a release that Ohio authorities have developed information that Jackenheimer and Summerfied have visited Hatteras Island and/or other Outer Banks locations in the past.
“Dare County investigators are seeking information from local residents that may have had a friendship or other contact with the two missing persons during this or earlier OBX visits,” the release says. “We are asking anyone who may have had such a relationship, at any level, to contact the Dare County Sheriff’s Office at 252-475-5980.”
The Sheriff’s office also released photos of the couple.
Also involved in the Hatteras Island search, using land and air assets and dogs, are the North Carolina Highway Patrol and North Carolina State Emergency Response Team.
Yesterday’s search uncovered no information on Jackenheimer’s whereabouts.
