Up to 3 Inches of Rain Forecast for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands
An area of low pressure will move through eastern North Carolina late tonight through Saturday, bringing with it heavy rain and the potential for flooding, per a Friday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
Flash flooding is possible throughout eastern North Carolina, and especially for low-lying and poor drainage areas. A swath of 1 to 3 inches of rain is currently forecast along the coast, which includes Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, with locally higher amounts possible in any associated strong thunderstorms.
There will also be a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat.
