Avon Sign Destroyed in Hit and Run Incident
A local man was charged with multiple offenses after hitting and destroying the sign in front of the Uglie Mugs Coffee Shop in Avon on Sunday evening.
Per State Highway Patrol officer Trooper Weaver, the individual was driving a Lexus 2002 ES at approximately 6:39 p.m. on Sunday when he hit the sign outside of the coffee shop along N.C. Highway 12, and then drove away. Two employees were outside and in the immediate vicinity of the sign during the accident, and reported the incident to the authorities. The eyewitness accounts led to the man being identified and later arrested on Sunday night at his home in Avon.
The man was charged with a number of offenses including DWI, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving, failure to report an accident, no insurance, and hit and run. No injuries were reported in the incident.
