Early Voting Begins Today in Dare County
One-stop absentee voting, more commonly known as “early voting,” began on Wednesday, October 17, in Dare County. Early voting allows residents to vote at any county precinct, and also to register to vote if they have not already done so, before casting their vote in the same trip.
During the early voting period, any registered voter can cast an absentee ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. Unlike on Election Day, when registered voters can only vote at their specific precinct, early voting allows members of the community to vote at any of the three one-stop absentee voting site in the county. One-stop sites will have all the ballot styles for a given election at each site.
During One-Stop Early Voting, voters may update their address and change vital information in an existing registration record, but are not allowed to change their party affiliation.

On Hatteras Island, the early voting site has changed from the main Fessenden Center to the Fessenden Center Annex, which is located at 47017 Buxton Back Road in Buxton.

Ocracoke Island
Early voting for Hyde County will be available at the Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday, October 25, and Friday, October 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Early voting in Hyde County is also available starting today at the Board of Elections Site (Public Safety Building) on the mainland at 1223 Main Street in the town of Swanquarter. A one stop voting schedule for Hyde County can be found here.
