Ahead of the coastal storm forecast for Friday, Blackbeard’s Pirate Jamboree officials are changing some outdoor event locations for the weekend event celebrating the 300th anniversary of Blackbeard’s demise off Ocracoke Island.
The Jamboree kicks off on Ocracoke Thursday (Oct. 25) evening and continues through Sunday (Oct. 28).
The National Weather Service, Morehead City office, forecasts periods of moderate to heavy rain Friday and Friday night with isolated thunderstorms possible. One to two inches of rain are expected, with highest amounts along the coast. Gusty southeast winds will develop Friday and become westerly Saturday. Wind gusts 25-35 mph will be possible along the coast.
“In order to keep everyone dry, the living history exhibits and artifacts of the outdoor pirate encampment will be moved into the Berkley Barn, located right behind the encampment for Friday only,” said Helena Stevens, executive director of the Ocracoke Civic & Business Association, which produces the event, in a press release.
Also for Friday only, the events scheduled for the Books to Be Red Stage have been moved into the Ocracoke Community Center.
“We have also distributed the food and libation vendors into indoor arenas (Ocracoke Community Center and Berkley Barn) for Friday only,” she said.
Brigands Bazaar vendor fair on the Wahab House lawn will expand to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an additional day on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Saturday, everything will go back to its regularly scheduled locations.

Join with us as the Pirate and Militia Crews march to beautiful Springer’s Point to honor those who perished on that fateful day, Nov. 22, 1718. The Militia’s cannons will kick off the march at Blackbeard’s Lodge. Join in at any point along the route.
Noon – Ocracoke Oyster Co.: Lunch with the Pirates. Join us in closing out the festival at a rousing brunch with the Pirates. Your chance to sit down with our Pirate Crews and enjoy a great meal.
The Hyde County Tram will operate throughout the Jamboree weekend from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., taking visitors around to tram stops throughout the village.
Public parking is available at the NPS Visitors lot at the south end of the island, 4352 Irvin Garrish Highway.
