Minor Coastal Flooding Expected on Wednesday
Minor Coastal Flooding is expected north of Cape Hatteras on Wednesday morning due to a combination of high astronomical tides, and strong onshore flow.
Water levels of 2 to 3 feet above normal or about 1 to 2 feet above ground are expected around this morning’s high tide at roughly 10 a.m., and beach erosion and ocean overwash along NC Highway 12 will be possible in typical hot spots.
Much colder temperatures will continue to occur today behind a strong cold front which crossed the area on Tuesday night. Highs will be 15 to 25 degrees colder than yesterday, with readings ranging from the upper 40s along inland North Carolina to the milder low 60s along the Hatteras and Ocracoke Island beaches. Gusty North winds of 15 to 25 mph will also add a chill to the air, and continued areas of light rain and drizzle will also prevail across the area.
Travelers are urged to use caution when driving on N.C. Highway 12, particularly on midday Wednesday. For more information on weather conditions, visit https://www.facebook.com/NWSMoreheadCity/.
