Hatteras residents asked to report suspected water leaks
The Dare County Cape Hatteras Water System, which serves the villages of Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras, has experienced higher than normal water demands since Hurricane Matthew on Oct. 9.
Initially, system officials attributed higher flows to storm cleanup, but the demands have not diminished since the hurricane.
Residents are asked to call the Dare County Water Department at 252-475-5990 to report any suspected leaks. System officials advise residents to look out for any standing water in normally dry areas, water bubbling up from the ground, or standing water around or leaking out of vacant properties.
“Your assistance in helping our water staff locate the leak is appreciated,” the county said in a news release.
