Dare County updates Bonner Bridge construction …WITH VIDEO
Dare County has released its latest video update on the Bonner Bridge replacement project.
“The bridge’s framework is steadily emerging,” the video notes.
On the northern end of the Bonner replacement, the first three girders have been installed and the bridge deck is beginning to take shape. Over the water, crews are getting ready to pour the concrete for the first piling on what will become 61 navigational spans.
And on the southern end of the bridge, the roadway approach is beginning to take shape.
Drivers in the area should continue to expect daytime closures of Highway 12 on Monday through Friday. One lane will remain open during these lane closures. However, motorists should allow for extra travel time in case of delays.
Occasional nighttime road closures of up to 30 minutes are also possible during the delivery of construction materials. NCDOT will provide advanced notice of these road closures via online and social media resources, as well as its travel management site, www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel/.
