2023-2026 Ocracoke re-entry permits now available for residents and property owners
Ocracoke Island re-entry permits are now available for residents and property owners for the 2023-2026 timeframe.
The Hyde County Emergency Services Department issues re-entry permits when emergency conditions limit general access to Ocracoke Island, such as in the event of a hurricane.
Re-entry permits are now issued to be valid for several years. To make the process easier, people with existing permits only need to bring their existing tag to apply for a new 2023-2026 expiration date sticker for their permit.
Those applying for the first time will need to complete the full application and supply all necessary documents, as outlined in the link below.
Residents and property owners may apply for a new permit in person or by mail. If applying by mail, the applications are processed weekly. If renewing permit in person, make sure to bring the plastic hangtag permit with you. No applications are accepted during an active event.
Hyde County staff will issue permits in Ocracoke at the Ocracoke Hyde County Office (Community Center) during business hours, which are Monday and Wednesday between 8 a.m. and noon.
