54 Seniors Receive Diplomas at Cape Hatteras Graduation
The 54 members of the Class of 2021 at Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS) received their diplomas at an outdoor commencement ceremony held on Saturday evening, June 12
The event began with a prelude by the Cape Hatteras Secondary School Graduation Band, conducted by Sean McCroskey, before the class processional to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance.”
After the presentation of colors by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance, which was led by Noah James Hagy, graduate Emmiline Grace Barker welcomed the parents and guests.
The class valedictorian is Laura Adelle Hooper and the salutatorian is Maria Rose Bradley, and both graduates addressed their fellow students in warmly received speeches at the ceremony.
The guest speakers for this year’s commencement were Natasha Farrow and Karla Jarvis, and the ceremony also included the presentation of the annual Citizenship Award by Principal Beth Haneman-Rooks.
Diplomas were handed out by Principal Beth Haneman-Rooks, assistant principal Annette O’Neal, and CHSS HS Counselor Karla Jarvis. Dare County Schools Superintendent John D. Farrelly gave the Declaration of Commencement, and graduate Amber Harrell delivered the closing remarks. Scholarships were also awarded in late May to a long list of graduating seniors.
