Accident reported north of Rodanthe; Travelers should expect long delays
UPDATE: N.C. Highway 12 has reopened in both directions as of 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
An accident on N.C. Highway 12 north of Rodanthe has resulted in a standstill in traffic in both directions on Tuesday afternoon, May 11.
A dump truck overturned near the Jug Handle Bridge early Tuesday afternoon, blocking both lanes of N.C. Highway 12. Dare County EMS, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, and local Hatteras Island fire departments are currently on the scene, and it is unknown whether there are any injuries from the accident.
Travelers on Pea Island should expect long delays on Tuesday as authorities respond to the incident. Per the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the road is expected to reopen by 4:30 p.m.
