Avon Fishing Pier opening for the 2021 season on Wednesday, May 26
The Avon Fishing Pier will open for the 2021 season on Wednesday, May 26, per a recent online update from pier operators.
In previous years, the Avon Pier had a late start to the season due to damage from a number of nor’easters or hurricanes. In 2020, after suffering damage to the roof of the pier house after 2019’s Hurricane Dorian, and a split in the pier itself from a series of subsequent nor’easters and storms, the pier was unable to open until June, when repairs were finally completed.
This past year, however, there have been no major storms that damaged the pier, and annual required repairs were minimal.
Stu’s Food Truck, which serves a wide range of breakfast and lunch items and was a fixture in the pier parking lot in 2020, will also be returning for the 2021 season.
The Avon Pier will also once again host Hatteras Island’s Independence Day fireworks, which are also returning for 2021, and which will be launched from the end of the pier on July 4.
Hatteras Island currently has two fishing piers: The Avon Pier and the Rodanthe Pier, which will both be open throughout the summer and fall months.
