CHEC celebrates National Lineworker Appreciation Day
Each year, Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) joins other electric cooperatives across the state and nation to celebrate Lineworker Appreciation Day. Held annually on the second Monday in April, this day recognizes lineworkers’ critical role in providing members with the power they depend on every day.
CHEC’s lineworkers are responsible for keeping the power flowing day and night, regardless of national holidays, vacations, birthdays, weddings, or other important family milestones. The job requires lineworkers to set aside their personal priorities to better serve their local community.
In addition to serving Hatteras Island, local lineworkers are also called on to provide aid across the state and nation following major storms and other times of need. This commitment to “cooperation among cooperatives” is one of the core principles of both the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative and the broader, national cooperative network.
“Today, Monday, April 10, is National Lineworker Appreciation Day and we want to give a shoutout to our awesome linemen and operations staff here at CHEC,” stated CHEC in a social media update. “Often called to work in brutal weather conditions, this team is dedicated to keeping the lights on for Hatteras Island, regardless of the time of day. Thank you for your commitment to this island community!”
The public is encouraged to thank our lineworkers in the local island community today, (and throughout the year), for their many outstanding efforts on Hatteras Island and miles beyond.
