CHEC presents $10,00 grant to Dare County Association of Fire Officers

The Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) has presented the Dare County Association of Fire Officers (DCAFO) with a $10,000 grant made possible through the CoBank Sharing Success Grant Program. CoBank is a national cooperative bank that serves rural areas.

The cooperative gave $5,000 to DCAFO, which was met with an additional $5,000 from CoBank, to support training and maintenance at the Buxton burn building. The site is owned by Dare County, but DCAFO is responsible for maintaining the facility and scheduling training for the fifteen fire departments in Dare County. The group plans to have a large, regional training at the burn building in early 2025, and several maintenance projects need to be addressed before then.

This donation was made possible through CoBank’s “Sharing Success” charitable contribution program, which celebrates the vital role that cooperatives play in individual communities across the country. Concern for the community is a long-standing cooperative principle. CHEC is happy to join CoBank in support of this worthy cause, as the cooperative works to provide value to members and support to the communities on Hatteras Island.
