Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet assists disabled vessel off of Ocracoke
On Friday night, December 4, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet received a call that the 33′ ft. vessel Why Knot was anchored off Big Foot channel near Ocracoke Island.
The vessel had lost power in one engine, and their anchor line was fraying and close to snapping. The weather was picking up and becoming treacherous, so a crew from Station Hatteras Inlet was launched to meet with the vessel outside of Big Foot channel.
Upon ensuring that the captain was comfortable navigating on one engine, the crew escorted the vessel safely inside Silver Lake, where they moored for the night. No injuries were reported during the incident.
