Coastal Flood Advisory, Wind Advisory, High Surf Advisory issued for the Outer Banks

Multiple advisories including a Coastal Flood Advisory, Wind Advisory, High Surf Advisory, and Gale Warning have been issued for the Outer Banks ahead of a strong cold front that is expected to impact the eastern North Carolina region through Monday morning, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.

High winds with gusts up to 55 mph will occur Sunday through Sunday night, and coastal impacts, including soundside flooding and ocean overwash, may occur Sunday through Monday morning.

Inundation of two feet above ground level or less is possible for areas along the Pamlico Sound from Avon to Duck, and beach erosion with minimal overwash impacts is possible south of Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. The strongest winds and coastal flood threat will peak during the late overnight hours to early Monday morning.

Heavy rains, (with 2-4 inches of total rainfall), are also forecast for Sunday, and scattered thunderstorms may lead to higher wind gusts in localized regions. Heavy rainfall will have the potential to produce minor flooding of poor drainage areas.

Dangerous marine conditions are expected and mariners should consider altering weekend plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions.
