UPDATED: Communications outage reported on Monday, March 3

UPDATE 4:45 P.M. Communications have been restored as of 4:45 p.m.

UPDATE 4:00 P.M. A cut cable near the Pea Island Visitor Center is responsible for a communications outage on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. As of 4:00 p.m. Monday, there is not an estimated time of restoration, but Xcel Fiber Optics personnel are at the site working to resolve the issue.

A communications outage was reported on Hatteras and Ocracoke at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Monday, March 3.

The cause of the outage is unknown as of Monday afternoon, and both cell service and internet are affected.
911 service may be impacted. In case of emergency, go to your local volunteer fire department or try texting 911.
