Dare County ends daily reports of COVID cases
Currituck County vaccination rates lag behind Dare, Hyde
A recent decision by the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services regarding the reporting of COVID-19 data seems to be another sign of the significant decrease in transmission and cases locally.
As noted in its May 18 update, the DHHS will end its longstanding practice of posting the number of new cases reported on a daily basis. Also discontinued are the weekly video updates by DHHS Director Sheila Davies. Instead, updates to the COVID case and vaccination numbers will be issued every Tuesday as part of the regular written weekly update. That reporting schedule could be changed if events warrant, Davies explained.
For the record, the daily reporting of COVID cases in the county was discontinued with 3,199 cases reported since the outset of the pandemic.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), as of May 21, about half (50.3%) of Dare County residents have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine and 47.9% are fully vaccinated. Those numbers track very closely with Hyde County, where 50.7% of the population has gotten at least one shot and 45.7% are full vaccinated.
The vaccination rates in Currituck County, however, trail far behind Dare and Hyde, with only 29.7% of the population there having received at least one shot, and with 26.1% fully vaccinated.
