Dare County’s Playgrounds and Facilities Reopen as N.C. Moves to Phase 2.5 of Easing COVID-19 Restrictions
With North Carolina moving to Phase 2.5 of easing COVID-19 restrictions, Dare County Parks & Recreation playgrounds will open on Friday, September 4 at 5 p.m. Dare County Parks and Recreation facilities will open on Tuesday, September 8. Times will vary upon location.
Those entering buildings or utilizing playgrounds must adhere to social distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC and NC Department of Health and Human Services. Face masks are required at all facilities and playgrounds for anyone over the age of 5 unless they are strenuously exercising. Masks must be worn: when entering and exiting the building, while waiting to play, while going to the restroom, while moving about the building, and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Additionally, visitors of the indoor facilities will be required to complete a temperature check, health screening, and use hand sanitizer upon arrival. A COVID-19 waiver must also be signed prior to any participation in activities sponsored by Dare County Parks & Recreation. For children in grades 6 through 12, parents must accompany the student on their first visit to sign the COVID-19 waiver. Children in grades 5 and below must have a parent present at all times.
The Northern Beach Division Youth Center will open at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. The morning gym time has been set aside for adult pickleball. Open gym for youth to shoot basketball will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pick up basketball games are not permitted. There is a limited number of participants allowed in the gym at one time. It is highly recommended to reserve your spot by calling 252-475-5850. Participants are allotted one hour of play each day.
The Roanoke Island/Mainland Division at Lions Club gym will open at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. The morning gym time has been set aside for adult pickleball. Open gym for youth to shoot basketball will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pick up basketball games are not permitted. Again, there is a limited number of participants allowed in the gym at one time, so it is highly recommended to reserve your spot by calling 252-475-5907. Participants are allotted one hour of play each day.
The Hatteras Island Division Fessenden Center will open at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Fitness classes will resume the week of September 14. Adult pickleball will resume every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting September 8. The gym will be open for youth to shoot around at one goal per child/family on Mondays and Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be a limited number of participants in the gym at one time with a limit of 1 hour of play per child each day. They never did close here on Hatteras. Kids have been skating and playing at the parks daily.
