Excessive heat continues on Tuesday; Severe thunderstorms possible
A combination of very warm temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat index values again on Tuesday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minimum heat indices of 100 degrees are expected through Tuesday evening on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Information on the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke are listed below.
In addition, strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast on Tuesday afternoon and evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Wind gusts up to 70 mph, as well as an isolated tornado, are possible
