Excessive heat expected through Tuesday; Heat Advisory in effect
A combination of very warm temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat index values on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minimum heat indices of 1oo degrees are expected through Tuesday, with a heat index of up to 108 forecasted for Sunday on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
