Fessenden Center’s gymnasium will close for at least six weeks starting Monday for roof & siding replacement project

The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department’s Hatteras Island Division has announced that the gymnasium located inside the Fessenden Center  will be closed for a period of at least six weeks beginning on Monday, March 3, while the facility’s roof and siding are being replaced.

The planned project is part of Dare County’s ongoing efforts to renovate and improve outdated Parks and Recreation Department facilities throughout the county in order to better serve members of the community.

Administrative offices located within the Fessenden Center will be open and operate normally during this time; however, all fitness classes scheduled to be held in the gymnasium will be moved to the activity room until the roof and siding replacement project is complete.

Pickleball play will still be available on the facility’s outdoor courts, which are open for use daily from dawn until 10 p.m.

While the roof and siding replacement project is underway at the Fessenden Center, patrons should also expect some closures to sections of the parking lot to occur. The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department’s Hatteras Island Division appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to improve our facilities for the community!

Any further updates regarding the planned reopening of the gymnasium upon completion of the project will be communicated through press releases that will be posted at DareNC.gov, as well as social media posts on the Fessenden Center’s Facebook page.
