Flash Flooding possible through late Thursday night
Deep moisture from distant Tropical Storm Eta will interact with a slow-moving cold front, resulting in very wet conditions through much of Thursday, per a recent briefing from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
Heavy downpours are possible, bringing the potential for flash flooding along eastern N.C. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all coastal N.C. counties, including Dare and Hyde counties on the Outer Banks.
A widespread 3 to 4 inches of rain is forecast, but 4 to 6 inches are possible across inland areas, with isolated higher amounts in embedded thunderstorms.
There is a Marginal Risk for Severe Thunderstorms, with the main threats being damaging gusty winds or potentially a brief, weak tornado.
